A temple of Shingon Sect. It is said to be the oldest temple in Kyoto, being constructed in 603 by Hatano Kawakatsu upon receiving a Buddhist statue from Prince Shōtoku and was rebuilt several times. We can see the famous statue of the Bodhisattva Maitreya (Miroku Bosatsu), the very first statue designated as national treasure in 1951.
